Get to Know Kim Ostrander

How did I get into this career?

After working in business most of my life, raising kids with my husband, and pondering what I wanted to do the second half of my life… I was drawn to pursuing a career in counseling. Mostly, I feel like this career found me! When I was growing up, counseling wasn’t a household topic for our family. Once I went to counseling for myself and began to see the value, I was hooked.

I love to learn and decided to go back to graduate school and the rest is history. In my own counseling experience, I grew to love the journey. Today, I love sharing the gift of therapy that was shared with me.

What is my favorite thing about counseling?

My favorite thing about counseling is the relationship I have with my clients. I love the process of getting to know my client and joining with them in their own journey of wellness. As clients share their story, I love collaborating together to develop a path to wholeness and healing. We are all unique and we all make sense! I enjoy providing clients a space away from their regular routines and offering creative modalities as they focus intentional time caring for themselves.

What do I like to do when I’m not at Atlanta Wellness Collective?

Most of my time away from Atlanta Wellness Collective is spent enjoying time with my family and friends. Creating memorable moments with my husband, our three adult children (and spouses/significant others), and our grandchildren is one of the biggest joys of my life. I love our family dinners, game nights, and outdoor adventures with lots of laughs and amazing conversations. I also enjoy spur of the moment hangouts with friends. Gardening, good movies, and hikes with Zues (our 100lb Golden Retriever) definitely make this list!

What do I hope for my clients?

My hope for each client is to experience safety and openness in the counseling room. During our sessions, my desire is to collaborate with you to develop a plan together to meet your goals. By seeking to address root causes for symptoms, I hope you uncover a new level of wellness. This is most often accomplished by processing current or past situations and developing new or brushing up on coping strategies or relational skills. It is my hope that you will begin to feel more empowered and whole throughout the counseling process to help live your best life.
